CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The Tampa Bay Rays put right-hander Alex Cobb on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with a strained oblique in his left side, the second starter theyve lost to injury in a week. The Rays called up left-handed reliever Jeff Beliveau from Triple-A Durham to take his spot on the roster. Beliveau pitched 22 games in relief for the Cubs in 2012 and one for the Rays last season. Left-hander Erik Bedard was added to the roster on Sunday and will take Cobbs spot in the rotation for now. Left-hander Matt Moore went on the 15-day DL earlier in the week with a sore elbow. The Rays moved left-hander Cesar Ramos from the bullpen into the rotation to take his place -- Ramos started Sunday against Cincinnati. Ramos and Bedard competed for a spot in the rotation during spring training, so they were ready to be starters when the season began. Cobb felt some tightness in his side during the game on Saturday, but he was throwing so well that the Rays thought nothing of it. "Im not exactly sure when it happened," manager Joe Maddon said. "We thought it could have been dehydration." He was examined after the game and sent back to Florida for an MRI to determine the extent of the problem. The Rays put him on the disabled list right away because they knew hed miss one or two starts anyway. According to Cam Tucker of Metro Vancouver, Bruce has filed a lawsuit against each CFL team, commissioner Mark Cohon and CFL Alumni Association executive director Leo Ezerins for allowing him to play despite showing the effects of a concussion he sustained in 2012. The Ottawa Redblacks are included in the suit, listed as "Capital Gridiron Limited Partnership" and "Capital Gridiron GP Inc". The Concussion Blog, an Illinois website, first posted the lawsuit that was filed in B.C. Supreme Court on Wednesday that shows Bruce as the plaintiff. The lawsuit claims that Bruce, who was playing for the B.C. Lions at the time, was knocked unconscious after a hit against the Saskatchewan Roughriders in September 2012. "On November 18, 2012, the plaintiff was permitted to return to play in the CFL West Division Final against the Calgary Stampeders despite still suffering from thhe effects of concussion," stated the claim. The CFL instituted its concussion protocol in 2010 and its the first lawsuit brought against the CFL regarding the issue. Bruce, who was released by the Alouettes prior to this season, is seeking unspecified monetary damages. Over his 12-year career, Bruce had 767 catches for 11,609 yards and 94 touchdowns with five teams.
