SYDNEY, Australia -- Fullback Israel Folau scored a double, lifting his tally of tries for the season to eight in four matches, as the New South Wales Waratahs sliced apart the Melbourne Rebels 32-8 in Super Rugby on Friday. Troy Apke Jersey . Folaus second-half tries clinched the Waratahs third bonus-point win. The Waratahs took an 11-8 lead to halftime after an indecisive first spell but tries to Folau and Peter Betham in the first eight minutes of the second half gave them breathing space. Folau then earned the bonus point with his second try seven minutes from fulltime. Folaus tries again came from his developing partnership with Wallabies inside centre Kurtley Beale. Beale made a line break and delivered an inside pass to Folau to set up the first try in the 48th minute, and again split the defence then slowed and held the ball up under pressure to lay on the second. "It was a tough game to be honest," Waratahs captain Dave Dennis said. "They put a lot of pressure on us in that first half. "Going into halftime it was a very even contest but we just talked about sticking to our game in the second half, and to come away with four tries was a very pleasing effort." No. 8 Dennis was part of a highly effective loose forward trio with openside Michael Cooper and former Springboks flanker Jacques Potgeiter, who was hugely industrious as was lock Will Skelton. Beale gave the Waratahs the key that unlocked the Rebels defence, which had been extremely resilient through the first half. Winger Alofa Alofa gave the Waratahs the lead after only three minutes with a try which followed a break by Potgeiter but the Rebels hit back with a try to captain Scott Higginbotham, his 25th in Super Rugby. Bernard Foley kicked two penalties for the Waratahs and Bryce Hegarty one for the Rebels, leaving a three-point gap between the teams at the interval. The Waratahs took the game away from Melbourne with the tries to Betham and Folau immediately after the restart. They almost had another, through Dennis, but that was denied when television replays showed a knock-on by Potgeiter in a preliminary phase. The Rebels again resisted strongly through the middle of the second half and handling errors prevented the Waratahs scoring again until the 73rd when Folaus second try gave them the comfort of a bonus point. The Rebels remained without a win in Sydney in Super Rugby, though they competed strongly at times. "Its disappointing," captain Higginbotham said. "They defended well. We worked hard and kept getting into their tryline area but just let ourselves down and let them off the hook." ------ New South Wales Waratahs 32 (Israel Folau 2, Alofa Alofa, Peter Betham tries; Bernard Foley 3 conversions, 2 penalties), Melbourne Rebels 8 (Scott Higginbotham try; Bryce Hegarty penalty). HT: 11-8. DaRon Payne Jersey . His recovery time is expected to be six to eight months. Seidenberg was injured in the third period of Fridays 5-0 victory over the Ottawa Senators, when he got his leg tangled with forward Cory Conacher. Jonathan Allen Jersey . "Its embarrassing what were doing here," leading scorer Phil Kessel said Wednesday. The most recent failed season came with even more pain than the six that preceded it. There was no hint of an impending implosion when the Leafs came roaring out of the all-star break with back-to-back games against Pittsburgh -- a 5-4 shootout loss followed by a 1-0 win the next night. http://www.redskinsrookiestore.com/Redskins-Da-Ron-Payne-Jersey/ . Chris Heisey followed with a two-run triple and Billy Hamilton added an RBI double, all but sealing Cincinnatis fourth straight victory and seventh in eight games. Brandon Phillips, celebrating his 33rd birthday, hit a go-ahead homer in the ninth for the Reds before pinch-hitter Buster Posey tied it with an RBI double off hard-throwing closer Aroldis Chapman in the bottom half.Got a question on rule clarification, comments on rule enforcements or some memorable NHL stories? Kerry wants to answer your emails at cmonref@tsn.ca! Hello Kerry, Im writing about the call on David Backes dislodging the net with 50 seconds left in the Montreal-St. Louis game to give Tomas Plekanec a penalty shot. I feel it was incorrect as it looked like Backes was almost falling backwards as he was trying to backcheck. What would you have called in that situation? Chris SchellenbachKirkwood, MO --- Hi Kerry, In Tuesdays Montreal-St. Louis game, the Canadien player Douglas Murray had the puck behind the net and the St. Louis player David Backes delivered a hit which forced a turnover for an Alex Steen goal. How was that not a cross-checking penalty? Grant Brodie Chris and Grant: Thanks to both of you for submitting a question from the St. Louis Blues shootout win over the Montreal Canadiens broadcast on TSN Tuesday night. Chris, the penalty shot called by rookie referee Darcy Burchell when David Backes dislodged the net from the moorings with just 48.9 seconds remaining and the score tied was not only a real gutsy call but the correct one. I concede your point, Chris, that David Backes did have momentum moving backwards after he cleared the rebound from outside the goal crease that resulted from Jaroslav Halaks save off the stick of Tomas Plekanec. Backes slipped past the pad of Halak and continued on his backward path through the goal crease. There was no effort made by Backes to initiate a stop or avoid making contact with the net. Knowing that contact with the goal was imminent, David Backes placed his hand and elbow on the crossbar in a reasonable effort to protect himself. Thats as much leeway as I can offer the Blues captain to this point oof the play. Custom Washington Redskins Jerseys. The instant that David Backes made a slight hip-check move, which dislodged the post from its moorings, a delay of game penalty was warranted. While I give young referee Darcy Burchell full marks for making the correct call, the rookie seemed a little hesitant to signal the penalty shot once he blew his whistle to kill the play. I can appreciate the many things that would have been going through Burchells mind as he viewed and factored-in Backes actions when the net was dislodged. Once his decision was made, I would suggest the young man should be more emphatic with his signal to demonstrate his certainty and to help sell the call. It is also important to note that any Habs player that was on the ice at the time of the infraction could have been designated to take the penalty shot. This is clearly spelled out in rule 24.3; "In cases where a penalty shot has been awarded to a player specifically fouled, that player shall be designated by the referee to take the penalty shot. *In all other cases where a penalty shot has been awarded, the penalty shot shall be taken by a player selected by the Captain of the non-offending team from the players on the ice at the time when the foul was committed." I offer kudos to Darcy Burchell for demonstrating the courage to make a tough call given the score and the time in the game. Thats what we expect from the refs, isnt it hockey fans? The answer to your question, Grant, is that the "push/shove" that David Backes utilized on the back of Habs defenceman Douglas Murray and forced a turnover of the puck is deemed to be legal strength checking move. If you look closely on the replay, you will notice that Backes two gloves make the primary contact with Murrays back and the shove motion is not regarded as a cross-check.
