Ryan Strome finished with a goal and three assists for the Islanders, who got 21 saves from Jaroslav Halak. Anders Lee and Josh Bailey also scored for New York, which has won six of its last eight games. Andrew Ladd had two goals and Ondrej Pavelec stopped 28-of-32 shots in the Jets second straight loss. The Islanders benefited from favorable breaks in the first period. Jets defenseman Adam Pardy whacked the puck out of the air during a scramble around Pavelec and it wound up going in off Strome at the 10:04 mark. Nielsen made it 2-0 on a 5-on-3 power play. Johnny Boychuks stick broke on a slap shot from the top of the left circle and the puck went right to Nielsen, who scored into an open net on a shot from below the right circle with 1:44 remaining. Ladd put the Jets on the board just as a power play ended, scoring off a give- and-go with Blake Wheeler at 4:41 of the second period. Nielsen one-timed in a return feed from Strome to restore the Islanders two- goal lead with 4:33 left in the second. Winnipeg opened the third period on a power play and trimmed its deficit to 3-2 on Ladds goal 47 seconds in. "We played good but its a different way to lose every night and results are the only thing that matter right now. "We didnt turn the puck over much, we created a lot but again. It just wasnt enough to win the game and its unacceptable." Nursing a 1-0 lead heading into the third period, the Avalanche were awarded their first and only power play of the game when Ottawa forward Chris Neil closed his hand on the puck and was called for delay of game. Duchene took a shot during the man advantage that Lehner stopped but the rebound went right to Holden, who was alone at the side of the net and scored at 3:10. "The power play was sharp again, we had only one opportunity but scored aa very important goal for us," Avalanche coach Patrick Roy said before praising the play of his goaltender. The Avalanche broke out three-on-one late in the period and after receiving a drop pass from Patrick Bordeleau, Benoit moved into the slot and put a shot over the shoulder of Lehner. "Its always fun to score against an old team and I had lots of family and friends here. Hopefully they keep going in," said Benoit, who is from St. Albert, about 30 minutes from Ottawa. "It was a big game and we were able to get a win. We have to keep this going now." Benoit was a fan favourite in Ottawa despite playing just 41 games for the Senators over two seasons. He has played in 66 of Colorados 68 games this season and has nine goals in 107 career games. Four of those have come in his last nine games.
