The Browns went for two again, and this time they got it, with RB Duke Johnson taking the handoff to the corner to make it a 17-7 game.Oakland put together their best drive of the first half, completing a series of passes and getting some tough runs by RB Marshawn Lynch. The drive was capped off by an 8-yard touchdown pass from QB Derek Carr to WR Amari Cooper, cutting the Browns’ lead to 17-14.The Browns had to punt at the two-minute warning, and now Oakland had another shot to strike back. The Raiders were about to get into field goal range, but then LB Joe Schobert had good coverage on a seam pass to TE Jared Cook, allowing the pass to fall back into the arms of CB E.J. Gaines for an interception. Cleveland went into the half still up 17-14.The Browns extended their lead to begin the third quarter. It was an efficient drive by Mayfield Authentic Christian Kirksey Jersey , but Oakland’s defense held Cleveland to a 28-yard field goal attempt for a 20-14 lead. Carr was picked off on his next drive by FS Damarious Randall, who returned the interception 50 yards to the Raiders’ 30 yard line. Mayfield took a shot at WR Jarvis Landry to the end zone, but a pass interference call gave Cleveland a 1st-and-goal situation. Two plays later, Mayfield found Landry on the fade for a 2-yard touchdown and a 26-14 lead. The Browns went for two with another handoff to Johnson. He was initially ruled down before he dove for the end zone, but Cleveland challenged and won, giving them a 28-14 lead.Cleveland’s defense forced another punt, and just when it looked like they were in control, the pocket collapsed on Mayfield and he fumbled with the Raiders recovering at the 7 yard line. The Browns forced back-to-back incompletions, setting up 3rd-and-goal from the 7. On third down, though, Carr gunned a pass right up the middle to TE Jared Cook for a touchdown, closing to within 28-21.Cleveland went three-and-out, and a short punt kept the momentum with Oakland. But the Raiders played a little sloppy themselves, resulting in a three-and-out. The punt was a touchback, bringing the ball out to the 20 yard line with under three minutes to go in the third quarter. Another three-and-out saw Cleveland punting the ball right back to Oakland. Just before the quarter ended, the Raiders got a big 52-yard run from RB Marshawn Lynch, inside the red zone. In the fourth quarter, an awesome third down stop by Randall forced Oakland to settle for a 29-yard field goal, cutting the Browns’ lead to 28-24. The Browns’ disastrous stretch on offense continued. On 2nd-and-2, C J.C. Tretter snapped the ball early, leading to a fumble and a Raiders recovery deep in Cleveland territory. A delay of game penalty pushed the extra point try back five yards, but Joseph still connecting on it, giving the team a 42-34 lead with 4:20 to go.The Raiders drove into the red zone pretty quickly. But after the two-minute warning, back-to-back incompletions resulted in a turnover on downs. The Browns took over with 1:51 to go and Oakland having all three timeouts. Cleveland appeared to get a first down to seal the victory, but replay review changed the call, making it 4th-and-1. The Raiders burned all their timeouts, but Cleveland punted with 1:28 to go, getting the ball at midfield. Carr drove Oakland down for the touchdown with 0:30 to go, a 7-yard pass to the corner for Cook. They had to go for two, and WR Jordy Nelson out-muscled CB T.J. After a first down throwaway, Mayfield completed a pass to Njoku for 5 yards, setting up 3rd-and-5 from their own 45 yard line. Mayfield’s improvised third down heave to Johnson was batted down, and the ensuing punt gave Oakland the ball at the 19 yard line, now needing any score to win. The rookie kicker drilled the 29-yarder for the win.Quick HittersQB Baker Mayfield: 21-of-41 for 295 yards, 2 touchdowns, 1 interception, 2 fumbles lost.RB Carlos Hyde: 22 carries, 82 yards, 1 touchdown.RB Nick Chubb: 3 carries, 105 yards, 2 touchdowns.WR Jarvis Landry: 4 catches, 34 yards, 1 touchdown (10 targets).TE Darren Fells: 1 catch, 49 yards, 1 touchdown (2 targets).2 interceptions, 3 sacks. The Raiders out-gained the Browns 562 yards to 487 yards. It wasn't a win. It wasn't a loss. It was ... weird.Seventy minutes of flags, fumbles and the occasional fight. Forgive the Pittsburgh Steelers if they're not quite sure what to make of their 21-21 tie against Cleveland in the season opener.A full day removed, they still can't quite put a finger on how to feel after a 14-point fourth-quarter lead somehow morphed into the franchise's first tie in 16 years."Very surreal," guard David DeCastro said on Monday. "I don't think it's really settled in yet. It feels like a wash ... It's a very foreign feeling in terms of football. Really hard game all around, kind of hard to describe."And for the defending AFC North champions, maybe the less said the better. The Steelers (0-0-1) outgained the Browns by 150 yards and received a breakout performance by running back James Conner Genard Avery Jersey , who had 192 combined yards. They sacked Tyrod Taylor seven times — including four times by outside linebacker TJ Watt, they were also called for a dozen penalties and couldn't hold on to the ball.Ben Roethlisberger threw three picks and fumbled twice. Conner scored twice, but also fumbled in the fourth quarter to give the Browns all the momentum they would need to start a stunning rally. It also started what the Steelers understand is a familiar cycle once the games start to count. Every Monday, everybody overreacts."Win or lose going to get the same questions from the fans, question from the media, they want to frame it every week the same way," said left tackle Alejandro Villanueva, who had trouble keeping Cleveland defensive end Myles Garrett in check on a day Garrett had two sacks and two forced fumbles."It is upsetting when you come up with results like Sunday against a team you should potentially beat."Something the Steelers have done with regularity against the Browns since Cleveland re-entered the league in 1999. Yet instead of the typically raucous two-hour bus ride back to Pittsburgh, the Steelers drove quietly through the remnants of a hurricane trying not to get caught up in the storm.Getting buried in penalties is nothing new for Pittsburgh, at least early on. They've averaged nearly 10 penalties a game over the course of their past five season openers.Over time, they tend to clean things up. They have finished in the top 10 in most penalty yards in a season just once since 2013. They believe they'll get better. After becoming the first team in more than 600 days to not beat the Browns, they don't really have much choice."There's a lot of things that could have been better," DeCastro said.Save for the fumble — which came when Garrett expertly punched the ball loose — the play of Conner wasn't among them. Thrust into the starting lineup while All-Pro Le'Veon Bell continues to wait to sign his one-year franchise tender, Conner ran 31 times for 135 yards and two scores and caught five passes for another 57. It was, in many ways, Bell-esque.Not comes the hard part. Doing it again. And again. And again."It's the nature of the game," DeCastro said. "It's a war of attrition."Bell's locker remained empty on Monday, though Joe Haden's was not. The veteran cornerback underwent an MRI on Monday after tweaking a hamstring on the wet turf in Cleveland. Haden made a brief appearance in the locker room and walked without any visible distress.Overall, Pittsburgh's revamped secondary acquitted itself just fine. Taylor finished 15 of 40 for 197 yards with a touchdown and two picks, one by Sean Davis and one by Cam Sutton, who replaced Haden. Sutton, however, also gave up a score when Josh Gordon made a spectacular leaping grab at the goal line to tie the game and Artie Burns briefly found himself on the sideline after losing his composure thanks to a little trash talk from Cleveland wide receiver Jarvis Landry.Burns knows that can't happen moving forward. Then again, neither can a lot of things that transpired on Sunday."We've just got to finish the game out," Burns said. "We can't give up 14 points at the end of the game. We've got to close the game out and win the game for the team." nflshopoutlet.com
