INDIANAPOLIS -- Kurt Busch just made his attempt at completing The Double a lot tougher after crashing during Mondays practice at Indianapolis. Busch spun coming out of the second turn on the 2.5-mile oval and slammed hard into the outside wall. It was the biggest crash of the month. Andretti Autosport said Monday night the car would not be repaired by the Indy 500 and Busch will drive teammate Marco Andrettis backup car. Busch will still start 12th. Debris flew into the air, there was a small fire and one of the tires rolled dangerously down the track as the car rolled to a stop on the infield grass. But the hardest part for Busch was contemplating all the work that must be done now as he becomes the fourth driver to attempt completing both the Indianapolis Indy 500 and NASCARs Coca-Cola 600, 1,100 total miles, on the same day. Both races will be held Sunday. "This created a lot of work for the Andretti guys. I feel bad for that," he said. "As a rookie, theres things you learn and put it up on the edge and get away with and then theres times when it will bite you. Its just tough." Fortunately, Busch was not seriously hurt. IndyCar medical director Dr. Michael Olinger checked him at the infield medical centre and immediately cleared him to drive. Busch said he was fine and ready to return to racing Friday when the final 1-hour practice sessions will be held. Busch said it wasnt a big deal he had to switch cars because he completed his Indy rookie orientation program earlier this month in a different Andretti Autosport car. "The ability of the Andretti Autosport team to field the car, it doesnt matter how it starts, or where it comes from, theyve been very accurate with everything," Busch said by phone. "Ill get over it quick. Ive wrecked cars before." In the garage area, crew members covered the damaged right side of the car with blankets before moving in into the garage and closing the door. When some fans attempted to take parts from the car, Andretti Autosport team members chased them down and retrieved the parts. The team then took the car back to its Indy shop to determine whether the car could be repaired. "Weve already worked our crews to death, trying to work with this schedule," said Kyle Moyer, Andrettis director of racing operations. "But well get it done." Initially, officials said Busch would start from the back of the field if he used another car in the race. Series officials later clarified that would not be the case, something that should help Busch. He qualified 12th, the outside of Row 4 on the 33-car starting grid. No driver has won Indy after starting 33rd. What happened? "I was starting to feel comfortable," Busch said. "Thats when I made the mistake of just letting my guard down or settling into that long run-type mentality whereas with an Indy car you have to be on edge. You have to keep track of where you are at all times and the adjustments in the car." Other IndyCar drivers thought Busch may have been done in by his NASCAR roots. "It looked like he just got loose in two and it looked to me like he overcorrected, like you would in NASCAR," Josef Newgarden said. "The thing looked like it almost snapped straight, but then it went in on its side." Here are five other things from practice. NEW LEADER: Though the speed chart from Mondays practice means little because teams were working on race setup in traffic, Newgarden, who drives for Sarah Fishers team was the fastest of the day. His best lap was 227.105 mph. Juan Pablo Montoya, the 2000 Indy winner who drives for Roger Penske, was second at 226.532. Scott Dixon, also a previous Indy winner, was third at 226.433, for Target Chip Ganassi and Russias Mikhail Aleshin was the fastest rookie at 226.371. Aleshin was fourth. ACTING PRESIDENTIAL: NCAA President Mark Emmert got a chance to show a different side at Indianapolis. He opened practice waving the green flag and also got a chance to ride around the track with three-time Indy winner Dario Franchitti, who retired last fall. "That was the best ever," Emmert said. "He (Dario) was always my favourite driver. It was a complete surprise that he was driving it. It was wonderful to chat with him, and of course, ride around the track with him." MARRIAGE VOWS: Long-time Indianapolis 500 fans Cory and Linlee Patterson of Lafayette, Indiana, were married Sunday in one of the Tower Terrace suites. They met speedway president Doug Boles, pole-winner Ed Carpenter. They have attended the past five 500s together. OLYMPIC QUEST: Dallas Robinson and Abe Morlu, who worked with the U.S. bobsled and luge team at the Sochi Olympics, were at the track working with Buddy Laziers team Monday. They met Laziers engineer, David Cripps, at the Olympics and were reunited at the track. Robinson and Morlu worked with the team and took a ride in the 2-seater driven by Mario Andretti. THE SWITCHBACK?: NASCAR driver Parker Kligerman started his career in open-wheel cars. Now the 23-year-old is considering a move back. He would replace Busch in the Coca-Cola 600 if Busch doesnt make it back in time. "I have a love for open-wheel cars and its something that me and my manager Bob Perona have talked about," Kligerman said. "Ive been given a bit of a vacation right now, so Im taking the opportunity as a race fan and a racer to see whats out there and what the possibilities are." Sebastian Rudy Bayern Munich Jersey .J. -- Fabian Johnson scored his first international goal and Clint Dempsey doubled the lead after a defensive lapse as the United States beat Turkey 2-1 Sunday in the second of three World Cup warm-up matches for the Americans before they head to Brazil. Strasburg (1-1) got 14 consecutive outs in one stretch and allowed only three hits, including Marcell Ozunas homer in the seventh. The right-handers lone walk was to the last batter he faced. Washingtons starter Wednesday, Jordan Zimmermann, left after a career-low 1 2-3 innings, leaving the bullpen "taxed," as manager Matt Williams put it. Manuel Neuer Jersey . James Rodriguez Bayern Munich Jersey . - Mike Zimmer has brought a demanding style to the Minnesota Vikings.TSN.ca presents its latest weekly power rankings for the 2013-14 Barclays Premier League staff. Rankings were weighted evenly between separate lists made by TSN Radio host and soccer analyst Gareth Wheeler as well as TSN.cas soccer editors. 1. Arsenal (Last Week -3) Mesut Ozil was the story for the Gunners, having a hand in all three goals of their 3-1 victory over Stoke City. He is proving to be a very influential member of a squad that is currently playing at a championship level. Aaron Ramsey, Per Mertesacker and Bacary Sagna benefited from his lively play with goals in this contest. 2. Manchester City (LW - 6) City were dominant from beginning to end in a 4-1 victory over rival Manchester United in the first derby match of the season. Sergio Aguero scored twice for the home side while Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri also found the net in what was a strong statement from Manchester City. 3. Tottenham (LW- 4) Tottenham deserved all three points in their contest against Cardiff City and thanks to Paulinhos first Premier League goal three minutes into injury time they were successful. Hugo Lloris did not have to do too much work in the net but almost handled the ball outside of the box which would have had him sent off and changed the complexion of the contest. 4. Chelsea (LW- 5) For the first time in a month, the Blues were on the winning side of a Premier League contest when they dispatched Fulham 2-0. Chelsea dominated the contest and John Obi Mikel picked up his first league goal in the victory. Both Juan Mata and David Luiz failed to see action in the match. 5. Everton (LW- 7) The Premier Leagues last unbeaten side captured a very entertaining 3-2 victory over West Ham. Leighton Baines twice leveled the score for Everton before Romelu Lukaku headed home the winner in the 85 minute just after their opposition had been reduced to 10-men. 6. Manchester United (LW – 2) United were never able to get in gear as they fell to Manchester City in the Manchester derby. With Robin van Persie sidelined with an injury, United had trouble generating offence. Wayne Rooney was their one bright spot and scored the consolation goal late in the second half. 7. Liverpool (LW- 1) While they had more of the ball in their 1-0 loss to Southampton, Liverpool did not create enough chances on goal to really pressure their opponents. Victor Moses had a great chance saved by keeper Artur Boruc, who they were not able to beat. 8. Southampton (LW- 10) Dejan Lovren lifted his squad to a huge 1-0 victory over Liverpool. Keeper Artur Boruc made a few great saves to keep his team ahead in the match and Lovren was lucky to escape without conceding a penalty against Liverpools Daniel Sturridge. 9. Swansea City (LW -13) Michu set the tone early for the Swans as they cruised to a 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace. His goal, just two minutes into the contest, was his first league goal of the season coming off his breakthrough campaign laast year.dddddddddddd Realistically the scoreline in this game could have been much higher. 10. Stoke City (LW – 8) Not able to deal with the pace of Arsenal, Geoff Cameron scored the only goal for Stoke in a 3-1 loss to Arsenal. Though the possession numbers were even, Stoke was not able to create nearly the same number of scoring chances as their opposition in the loss. 11. Hull City (LW- 17) It took the Tigers a little while to get going in their eventual 3-2 victory over Newcastle. Sone Aluko picked up the winner in the 76th minute and they held on for the road victory. 12. Aston Villa (LW- 14) Keeper John Ruddy was forced into action early, saving a penalty in the sixth minute and Libor Kozak scored the winner in the 30th as Villa beat Norwich 1-0. These three points are the first for Aston Villa since their opening game victory over Arsenal. 13. Newcastle United (LW- 9) Poor defending in the end cost Newcastle in their 3-2 loss at the hands of Hull City. Loic Remy scored twice for the Magpies, but it was the backline and keeper Tim Krul who could not keep the winner out of the net in the end. 14. Cardiff City- (LW- 11) Under the gun from the beginning, it looked as though Cardiff was going to escape their match with Tottenham with a single point. Sadly, three minutes into injury time, their resolve broke and they found themselves beaten 1-0. 15. West Bromwich Albion (LW- 19) Stephane Sessegnon led the charge against his former team as West Brom beat Sunderland 3-0. The Baggies would control the action for the majority of the contest with Boaz Myhill earning the clean sheet. 16. West Ham United (LW- 12) Andy Carroll, Joe Cole and Stewart Downing all missed the 3-2 loss to Everton with injuries. Ravel Morrision and Mark Noble from the penalty spot were on target for West Ham. An 81st minute second yellow to Noble sealed their fate in the loss. 17. Norwich City (LW- 15) Robert Snodgrass had a chance from the penalty spot to put the Canaries ahead but was not able to convert the chance. Norwich had other chances throughout the contest but were not able to score in a 1-0 loss to Aston Villa. 18. Fulham (LW- 16) Darren Bent had the best chance for Fulham in their 2-0, west London derby loss to Chelsea but was not able to crack the scoreboard. Steve Sidwell also had a chance after his side was down a goal but once again could not find the goal. 19. Crystal Palace (LW - 18) With manager Ian Holloway banned from the touchline, Palace were overrun by Swansea in a 2-0 defeat. They trailed after just two minutes and were never able to get themselves back into the contest. 20. Sunderland (LW- 20) The 3-0 loss to West Brom proved to be the end of the line for manager Paolo di Canio who was fired following the defeat. At the fulltime whistle di Canio walked over to the supporters and gestured for them to keep their chins up, it was his final act in charge of the team.
