ALAMEDA, Calif. Jose Ramirez Jersey . - Oakland Raiders running back Latavius Murray failed to pass the final test of the NFL-mandated concussion protocol and will not play Sunday against St. Louis.Murray had been limited in two practices earlier this week but was held out of Fridays workout after being ruled out against the Rams.Interim coach Tony Sparano declined to go into details about Murrays situation or whether the second-year running back had suffered any type of setback. He did not pass the last part of the test, Sparano said. I dont need to go into those details but hes out.Losing Murray is a significant blow to Oaklands offence. He rushed for 112 yards and two touchdowns in the Raiders 24-20 victory over Kansas City on Nov. 20 — the teams first victory in more than a calendar year. Murray was knocked out of the game in the first half after absorbing a helmet-to-helmet hit by Chiefs safety Kurt Coleman. After the game, Murray walked through the Raiders locker room smiling and in good spirits. He was that way earlier this week and sounded hopeful of playing against the Rams.Im feeling better each day as we go along, Murray said Wednesday. With these kinds of things you just have to take it one day at a time and you just have to follow the right procedure so Im just making sure Im doing that and listening to what the trainers have me doing.Murray had been buried on the depth chart until his breakout night against the Chiefs. Sparano had previously indicated the Raiders would increase Murrays workload over the remainder of the season, but that was before Murray suffered the concussion.Oakland will likely continue to rely on Darren McFadden as its primary back against the Rams. Fullback Marcel Reece, who rushed for 34 yards on seven carries during the winning drive against Kansas City, is also an option, though Sparano was vague when asked about that possibility.Well see, Sparano said. He ran the ball well. He should get carries.Sparano was equally evasive when asked who would return punts against St. Louis and whether wide receiver Rod Streater would play. The Raiders leading receiver a year ago, Streater has been out since suffering a broken foot in Week 3. He underwent surgery and was placed on injured reserve with the designation to return after, then returned to practice this week. Were going to take our time with that, Sparano said. You have to be completely sure that the guy is ready to go. Well see. Right now I dont know if Chris Long is playing so (the Rams) dont need to know if Rod Streater is playing.Notes: S Larry Asante (shoulder) was limited and is probable. CB TJ Carrie (ankle) and TE Brian Leonhardt (concussion) are also probable. LG Gabe Jackson (knee) was limited and is questionable. ... CB Carlos Rogers (knee), CB Neiko Thorpe (hand) and S Jonathan Dowling (back) are out. Edwin Encarnacion Jersey . But then, the Avalanche committed three more infractions over the next 3:44, and the Islanders took advantage to score two 5-on-3 goals. Somehow, Colorado survived Saturday night. The Avalanche regained their composure, and held on to beat the Islanders 5-2 -- the deceptive margin coming as the result of two empty-net goals in the final minute. Matt Duchene scored twice in a 2:44 span to give Colorado that three-goal advantage. Nathan MacKinnon got the Avalanche on the board, and Gabriel Landeskog and Paul Stasny added the empty-netters. Jean-Sebastien Giguere allowed the two 5-on-3 goals, but was otherwise string, stopping 30 shots. Colorado coach Patrick Roy credited his squad for not panicking after giving up the 5-on-3 goals. "I thought we remained pretty calm on the bench," Roy said. "We had a power play that gave us some momentum back. ... And we also had (a) great save. I think (Giguere) touched it with his glove at the end. That was a big save for us." Duchene broke a nine-goal drought to reach 101 for his career. Roy didnt believe Duchene was pressing in search of his 100th goal. "People made a big story of that, but not me," Roy said. "He had chances.every night. It was just a matter of time. And tonight he was resilient. He went to the net, he stayed there, and took advantage of the rebound. And then the second shot was a perfect shot. Right under the bar. It was a beauty." The win snapped a two-game skid for Colorado, and gave it some momentum going into the Olympic break. "Im very pproud of our players," Roy said. Josh Tomlin Jersey. "Hopefully, our guys have a good 10 days off." For the Islanders it was a disappointing end to the pre-Olympic portion of the schedule. All appeared to be lost in the second period, where they looked extremely sluggish and could only manage four shots on goal. But the flurry of Colorado penalties ignited the New York offence. John Tavares scored his 24th goal of the season to put the Islanders on the board with 8:43 remaining. Just 57 seconds later, Lubomir Visnovsky added another, to cut the deficit to one. The Islanders had the momentum on their side, and a raucous crowd behind them. They also had another 1:55 on the power play. But they were unable to get the equalizer. Islanders coach Jack Capuano was frustrated by the fact that his team was dominant in significant stretches of the first and third periods, but couldnt turn it into a positive result. "Same old story," Capuano said. "We dominated the game, and we dont win the hockey game. ... We had some unbelievable chances. Give their goaltender credit. He played extremely well." Capuano expressed hope that his club will bounce back after the time off. "We will take.three or four days and regroup, and go through some video of the first half, things that we need to work on, and try to concentrate on those areas." NOTES: Landeskog extended his point streak for the Avalanche to nine games. He assisted on MacKinnons first period goal, in addition to the empty netter. ... PA Parenteau was held without a point in his return to the Nassau Coliseum. Parenteau spent two seasons with the Islanders before signing with the Avalanche in the summer of 2012.
